Seymour & Castle employees took on the Castle to Coast charity bike ride in June to help raise money for Lincolnshire charities.
This is the 7th year the event has been held and is supported by many Lincolnshire businesses including our company who have been involved for the last 4 years. There were 79 participants in the first event, and each year the entry numbers have increased, this year there were over 600 riders. The ride is held on a weekday and aims to get local business men and women out of the office and onto their bikes, whilst raising money for charity. The chosen charities in 2017 are LIVES, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Men’s Sheds.
It was an early start for the lads in the rain which did not dampen their spirits and they were soon cycling towards the east coast at a fair pace as the strong westerly wind blew them along. Unfortunately, the poor weather the day before had washed debris across some of the route and it was not long before they were trying to remember how to fix a puncture as several riders were to suffer throughout the days event many times. The local cycle shop in Alford was doing brisk business in spares especially inner tubes.
The weather played a big part in this years ride and was not kind to them on the day and it was a 20mph head wind all the way back to Lincoln after the lunch provided by the organisers at Chapel St Leonards which tested the fitness of them all, however in true Seymour’s style they got the job done and all made it back safely to the finish where a welcome pint was waiting along with a free barbeque knowing that it was all for a worthwhile cause and with such a friendly bunch of fellow riders made it a pleasure to be part of the day.
Roll on next year!!!
